Other Permanent Resident visas for Australia
Overview
In addition to family, skilled and business and refugee/humanitarian migration, there are a number of very specific classes of permanent resident visas. These classes have been developed to accommodate certain groups of people who do not fall within the three major programs.
Australian Close Ties Visa/ Former Resident visa
From 1 July 2005 the Close Ties visa subclass will only cater for certain former Australia permanent residents who:
have spent 9 out of first 18 years in Australia as permanent residents, are under 45 years of age and have maintained close ties to Australia; or
served in the Australian Armed forces for at least 3 months or was discharged before completely 3 months service because they became medically unfit as a result of their Australian defense service.
Australian Distinguished Talent Visa
This visa is for exceptionally talented people who have an outstanding internationally recognised record of achievemtn in their field, or who have provided specialised assistance to the Australian government in security matters. There is a distinguished talent visa for applicants inside Australia and for applicants outside Australia.
To meet this requirement the applicant should be very eminent in the top echelons of their field. They should demonstrate extraordinary and remarkable abilities and be superior to others in their field.
